Recommended changes in UK law would improve gay couples' access to fertility treatment and adoption as part of a larger recognition of civil partnership rights, according to the UK Observer.
From what I can tell, 'gay couples' mostly means lesbians, who have been frequently denied such health services because of the law's insistence on a child's "need for a father." Changes to the 1990 statute would base treatment and service provision on "a child's welfare" and a "need for a family," and on a desire to cut back on the unregulated use of turkey basters. Seriously.
